I came for the 90s nostalgia, and... it delivered. Coulson didn't get too much screentime but it was where it counted. No Carter though
Can't say much for the plot outside of the references.

For those who've seen it


Frankly speaking there was very little tension, Captain Marvel is just too strong and it never felt like she was in any danger.

It was kind of interesting to find out that the Skrulls were good guys the whole time.

I'm sort of torn up on how she just energy blasted Jude Law's character at the end instead of responding to his taunt and engaging in fisticuffs. Perhaps it was just more feminist rhetoric about tuning out the toxic men in one's life? Would it have been better if she took him up on his challenge and soundly bested him without using her powers, to show how much she's grown? Maybe. Her character was pretty static this whole movie regardless.

I can't recommend this, not even as a prerequisite for Endgame. Maybe check out that anime Captain Marvel instead:
