No it's what marvel does for each movie recently: take an arc from the comics, cut it up so it fits the MCU, like Civil War for example changing the main theme from after a massive screw up by a super hero team that wiped out a school, forcing all super heroes to register themselves in a database as living weapons, giving up their secret identities and for all intents and purposes making them agents of the government, and that led to a schism that ended with the assassination of Captain America by Sharon Carter after he turned himself in, leading to Bucky becoming cap for a while.
This new movie is doing the same as OMD but instead of Mephisto it's Dr. Strange, though for all we know that might not be the real Strange, and instead of undoing him revealing it in civil war it's undoing Mysterio revealing it. I am excited to see Green Goblin & Doc Ock again, but I'm really hoping they handle this right and not screw up Ock redeeming himself at the end of S2.
As to Loki, I really hated that Loki was basically second fiddle in his own show to make way for a new character. Possible spoiler for future marvel stuff
, and I really don't like that they took Loki who was at the height of being a villain where the previous few days he killed over 80 people and fought the avengers toe to toe in some cases but needed him to quickly go through several movies worth of characterization so showed him a slide show of the MCU to change him to what we had in Infinity War.
