I watched abit of the original series before i lost interest (mainly because everyone is an asshole to a kid for no reason) and have only watched up to the second rebuild movie.

I do like the characters in SRW series, in the Alpha series Shinji actually becomes a better person because he interacts with people who are genuinely nice and want to be friends with him. Because of this he becomes a bad ass and leads the charge against the Mp EVAs to save Asuka. Also in SRW V you can use that bad ass mode he uses at the end of rebuild 2 complete with awesome music.

Also been told by friends that a good read is Shinji and Warhammer 40k, a fanfic that has almost as many words as the king james bible. never read it so cant comment on how it is.
