Orkan fires off three bolts. The first kindles a low hanging branch. The other two dissipate into harmless sparks inches away from the beasts fur. The creature remains motionless but all the human souls of the group can tell otherwise. The uncomfortable itch of unnatural magical tides coming to a focus in the beast signal its intent and ability to perform an enchantment.
The cowering pair of souls tangled in the roots and mushroom bed in the middle of the pack cry:

Judy - [Imperial]: "Aye, this doesn't seem to be our lucky day."
Henry - [Dog]: "Ruh-roh! That thing's huge!"
Judy - [Imperial]: "Maybe we can distract it by feeding it some fuel?"

Andrea stands her ground staring back at the beast. Her inner equine spirit, which would normally be quite frightened of such a predator, is merely puzzled instead.
[Imperial] "Milady?" Vala questions, her body inclined towards fleeing. Andrea shakes her head.
[Imperial] "Nay, If it wished to devour us 'twould be at it already, like yon spiders. It's desires lieth in some other domain."
She rounds on the two strangers. [Imperial] "Who art thou?"

Dozens of pairs of green human hands surface from the beast's sides. They create a ringed spiral coming from behind the beast's ears and ending somewhere out the party's view. The sound of two claps repeats itself louder and louder. Quickly the party realizes the spiral of hands is propogating this *clap clap* from back to front. After each pair of hands perform their task they retreat back into the beast's hide. When the final pair finish the bizarre sequence a wave of vertigo overcomes the party. The nearly imperceptible wreathes of smokematter that still remain are instantly dispersed into feeble fumes.
Still the beast does not step forward.
Unknown Souls - [Imperial]: "A-a-a scouting detachment tasked ta' root out a putrid corruption that manifests as beastly madness!"

[Imperial]-Lady Andrea, this creature hath the power to dispel the strongest of enchantments. But I would wonder how it’s hide may fare against the piercing strength of thy lance. Dare it approach, I would thee sheath thy strong and straight shaft deep into the beast’s quivering flesh.”

Andrea's attention is drawn back to the beast as it performs this bizarre ritual. [Imperial] "Were I accompanied by a few of my sisters of battle, I would not hesitate. As it standeth now I fear a fight would bear ill for us."
She calls out to the beast. [Imperial] "If thou speakest a tongue of man, I bid thee state thy intentions!" She repeats this message in Uldish and then Ob-lob if there is no response.

Orkan starts in surprise. [Uldish] - “You can speak civilized tongue?” he asks. “Vhy haff we not conversed as countrymen? Perrhaps now is not ze time. Ve vill speak more on zis matter.”

After a pause the creature casually turns away from the party and slinks off into the darkness. Only the party and the cowering souls are present.

[Imperial]-"These woods get stranger by the hour."
Turning his attention to what Finch presumes to be Imperials.
[Imperial]-"For n'body else be in these woods and further still the beast brought them to us. What say ye and why should I not run you through now?"

Uknown Souls - [Imperial]: "Tis be unjust! Our vengeant spirits wouldst never leave thee."

[Imperial]-"Just? Then I'll give ye over to General Marcutio an' a short trial be all that needed. Couple lousy 'perials in the woods not hard ta tell him ye be the cause of the woods madness. If'n ye tell me why ye here I be inclined to mercy."

[Imperial]-"Nay the only souls we've encountered are ye. Though if ye be looking for the cause of both our misfortunes it be in these bags here."

The pair sense they are not in immediate danger so they collect themselves and stand upright.
Unknown souls-[Imperial]: "We beg thee enlighten us to the nature of thy sacks. What be their foul origin?"

[Imperial]-"Have a look fer yerself."
Finch nods to Judy (or whoever is carrying the bag) and continues speaking after
[Imperial]-"There was a wagon full of it out in these woods with a deceased 'federate inside. Seems the beasts are inclined to eat the stuff an' best guess the stuff is the cause of the maddened attacks. Thinkin' it best not leave it around we burned the wagon and kept this as proof. We was wonderin' if 'perials were cause of it but if'n you lookin' for it too that seems unlikely."

Unknown Souls-[Imperial]: "By our mortal hearts we swear to thee this be no Imperial scheme. The beasts have stayed our offence since no more than several sun cycles after confederates changed command!"
