Osein Stroopwafel clenches his teeth and stands up out of the chair, precariously. He smiles.

"I'm off to the Golden Goose. A casino to investigate? Count me in."

His smile sours.

"And I suppose one of you will need to accompany me? Don't worry," he adds unironically, "I'm actually a very friendly person. As long as you're not too womanly or childish."

"Shall we all meet back here at the end of the day, then?"

Simpette smiles sweetly at Osein, and tags along to the Golden Goose. "I may be a little too much woman for you to handle, but I'm sure we'll get along just peachy." She gathers her things as she's about to leave, but not before taking a good look around the Constabulary and recalling its layout.

OOC: can we get a description of the constabulary?

(Boy, a three way split, amazing.)

The group discusses their plans, and agrees on a three way split to cover the most ground. As they're filing out of the building, Simpette makes note to marvel at the architectural wonder that is the constabulary. The building is two storied, with the exterior covered in marble tiles, there is a strip of marble below the gently pitching, white tiled roof that is singular in nature, upon which is carved a symmetrical relief of mythical creatures.

The grand door frame to the constabulary’s double doors towers above the common individual, and are similarly decorated.

The ground floor of the constabulary has an exceptional ceiling clearance for an administrative building, ten, no perhaps twelve feet high, with plaster colored walls.

A series of fairly minimalistic ink landscape paintings hang around the front lobby, behind which the lounge, the kitchen, the supply and locker room, the restrooms, and a series of offices for the on duty officers are situated.

Heading up the stairs are the offices for the higher ranking officers, a second, larger lounge, the tearoom, the two large meeting rooms, and the offices for the secretarial staff, like Lirus.

On the way out Patrick makes sure to get changed out of his officer uniform, which normally consists of an embroidered crimson silk vest, and a grey beret hat. He, however, only has the vest to contend with as the beret got in the way of his sweet hairstyle, and is quickly able to dress in a more casual fare. Also left behind is his conspicuous and heavy police saber.

Kaiwaka and his master are already un-uniformed, dressed in single colored robes, and are able to immediately head towards their destination of Maf Dili's residence. Kobe-Juan perhaps had hoped that more people would join him, but alas he will be only accompanied by his disciple as the others had different plans in mind.

Instead of keeping a spare change of clothes in her locker, Fu likes to wear her uniform to work and so she heads home to change.

Osein has already forgotten his saber at home, and pays no mind to his fraying vest. The tip of his crumpled beret can be seen peeking out from his left pocket, almost begging to fall out.

He is also joined by Simpette, who is wearing the standard fare, but has the blouse under her vest cut a bit too low, perhaps even lower than regulations will allow, and is wearing jewelry and makeup, making her look more like a sex worker than an actual police officer.

Maf Dili's home is small linked home in the (poor) residential district. It may be called the residential district, but the wealthy lived elsewhere. The house was small, sure, but not displeasing to look upon, for all buildings built in Mansiil must be built to strict guidelines. The families of the poorer laborer classes tended to be larger, and to have such so many people crammed into such a small space seemed like an uncomfortable proposition.

Kobe-Juan has a quick look around the immediate surroundings, and notes that there're only a couple of housewives and extremely young children in the neighborhood. Most of the men and older children have gone off to work at this time of day.

The elder gentleman quickly opens the door with the spare key obtained from the landlord as evidence.

He notes that the inside of the home has been left in pristine condition. Maf was most likely a conscientious individual who liked to keep her property organized, as the limited space of the home has been kept in a manner that made use of every inch of floor space.

The insides of the stove in the kitchen was clean as well, there being no soot in the place that the firewood should go.

(Osein's team)

Osein and Simpette, and odd duo for sure, and one that catches many eyes along the way, make their way to section 5.

Although section 5 is adjacent to the section 6 in which the group resides, the entire metropolis is divided into only eight sections, and thus the distance is considerable.

When they finally made it there, it was already around noon, and Osein and Simpette both feel a little hungry, but nonetheless they walk into the casino and are greeted by a man with an absolutely amazing hat.

"Hello Sir, and Madam. Our bar is closed during the day, but if you wish to stay and play you are still welcome. Would you like some chips?"

A brief look around the establishment reveals that there are only a few delinquent looking individuals lingering around the premises. There might be some additional, wealthier customers in the private rooms in the back, but Osein and Simpette can't see any from where they are standing.

Most people are at work during this time of day, and it is reflected in the limited customer base.

\\\

(Fu's team)

Having originally decided to visit Jonis' residence, Fu changes her mind after her conversation with Patrick and agrees to meet him at the House of Blooms dorms.

She does a little roundabout to her home while Patrick heads straight towards the House of Blooms employee dormitory. Patrick arrives around a quarter of an hour earlier than Fu, and as he's standing outside waiting, he starts immediately getting a feel for the lay of the land(barrels) with his powers.

Patrick senses a large concentration of wooden containers in area around him, but that is only natural as he is currently in the Commerce district. By concentrating on the dorms and the immediate area surrounding, he is able to glean their nature and contents there are wardrobes and dressers, filled with their natural contents. Reams upon reams of cloth and sewing supplies. Small boxes, some filled with cosmetics and others with small amounts of cash. Trash bins holding... trash. Thin boxes holding tools used for "nightly pleasure", and some crates holding fresh produce.

There is one noted wardrobe in the store holding people, out of the many able sized containers, and there’s not one but two people inside. They seem to be kissing, however, and not there against their will.

Fu manages to stealthily make her way from her home to the House of Bloom dorms, as stealthily as one can do so in the city in broad daylight. That is to say she just walked there in the open like every other of the thousands of people hustling along the streets. On the way there she tries to keep an eye out for any suspicious figures, but among the crowds of people it is particularly difficult to discern one person from the next.

There are a couple hoodlums in the alleyways here and there, and they look naturally suspicious to Fu, so she make's note of their locations and continues on her way for now.

Most of the workers at the House of Blooms are at work right now, so the dorms are empty. There’s the option of asking around or heading directly to the dorms.

(Fu's team)

Fu presents her warrant to the the dorm mother, and gains entry into Simpette Dalrus' dorm room, which has been sealed by several layers of red police tape.

The inside of Simpette's dorm room is somewhat messy. Along the left wall is what seems to be a florist's worktable, with several different types of vases lined up, some are filled with different floral arrangements, and some remain empty. Some of the flowers are starting to wilt, and to the left of the table is a trash bin filled with decaying plant matter and scraps of colored paper.

On the other side of the room is a simple bed and a small wooden dresser. Next to the dresser is a stack of floral print dresses and undergarments, piled up haphazardly. Judging by the texture and smell, it seems the dresses are due to be washed. Inside the dresser are more floral print dresses and undergarments, and a crumpled bunch of receipts to the dresses. It's hard to tell the dress that each receipt corresponds with, but Fu sees that the dresses are all second hand goods gotten for rock bottom prices.

The sheets on the bed have been folded, but very poorly. Fu feels around on the bed and covers for any hidden objects, and finds nothing in both the thin sheets and straw mattress.

Fu looks under the bed, and manages to pull out a small wooden box, she opens it to find only a couple of Dram coins, some cheap cosmetics, and some receipts for what looks to be her gambling debt, which totals 560 Ounces, and incurs a 10% monthly interest, all owed to the Golden Goose.

Fu taps around the room with her foot and fingers, and does not find any secret compartments.

Not feeling satisfied, she shuffles through the trash bin as a last resort. She finds some crumped papers and a couple of dead cockroaches at the bottom of the bin. She opens up the balled up paper to reveal what a bunch of letters and numbers arrayed in a confusingly messy manner, with arrows indicating some sort of relationship between the characters.

After a bit of thought though, it becomes obvious that all the numbers and letters seem to match up to the faces of cards in a deck of Reindeer, which is used in many different popular Dflen card games.

Kobe-Juan's trained eyeballs rolled carefully around the room, taking in the sights and sounds. This isn't how he had expected his new team to turn out, but he would be remiss if he did not do his part nonetheless.

"Well then. The absence of soot in the stove could be in line with the victim's penchant for cleanliness, or indicate that she did not cook for herself." The wise master gets a feel for the room's alignment, how the mysterious energy that pervades the universe flows through it. "There are no signs of a struggle, so Ms. Dili was either coerced into leaving peacefully or some dread thaumaturgy was performed that she was powerless to resist. Come, my apprentice. We shall do a standard sweep, and leave no stone un-turned."

Dividing the residence in half among them, Kobe-Juan and Sana-kin will perform a thorough search of the area, keeping an eye out for any pieces of literature the victim may have read or written, and signs of either some secret passageway or arcane ritual being performed. They will take care to put everything back in place afterwards.

Fu goes and asks the the dorm mother for the check in check out record.

"Simpette's a nice girl, but that gambling habit of hers really dragged her down," says the dorm mother as she sighs, handing you the ledger, "I've warned her multiple times about going to such disreputable places, but since she usually returns before curfew and respects the rules, I thought maybe it wouldn't be so big of a deal. After all, unlike other cities, Mansiil has a very active night scene, and the streets are busy with people all the way until midnight."

After receiving the ledger, Fu flips through the pages. Every page represents a day, and has lines upon lines of checkins and checkouts, with a brief reason written if the time is particularly close to curfew. Overall Fu learns that Simpette tends to go "shopping" once or twice a month, and tends to skirt the 22:00(time is written in military time) curfew on those days by as little as a single minute at times.

It is estimated that it takes at least two hours hours to walk to the Golden Goose from where the dorms are, and work typically ends at 18:00 for the House of Blooms, leaving no time to actually enjoy herself. So either Simpette is a seasoned marathon runner, or she typically takes one of the taxi carriages that runs along the main roads.

(Kobe-Juan)

The older gentleman looks around the residence for anything that might have been written or read by Maf Dili. He is in luck for he finds a small shelf with a series of mismatched tomes. Although the printing press has been around for a while now, literacy still wasn't prevalent in the lower classes, and so its a little surprising to find a considerable collection in the hands of a waitress.

He casually flips through the well worn pages of a random tome. It's a smut novel. He flips to the back cover and see's that the publishing date was a mere six cycles ago(eight cycles in a year).

He places the book back and flips through the rest of the shelf.

A around a third of the bookshelf contains smut romance all worn from use, two volumes of cooking notes, hand written, another third of the shelf is devoted to study materials for the Imperial scholar examination, three volumes of tea guides, and three volumes of poetry anthologies.

All of the books, besides the cooking notes, are in their original print, and are almost unmarred.

Unable to immediately glean any useful information, Kobe places the last volume back in its original location, and just as he's about to go check elsewhere, he hears a light rustling sound. Looking to the source, he finds three live cockroaches attempting to consume two of their dead brethren. Nature, how quaint.

Undisturbed by a couple of insects, Kobe-Juan then heads towards Maf's small writing desk. In the little drawer underneath are some study notes, a couple pages of what look to be novel manuscripts, some half baked poems, most left unfinished, and a couple of semi-romantic correspondences with a pen-pal whose signature reads 'Jorfi'. The writing matches the two volumes of cooking notes in the bookshelf.

Kobe-Juan then attempts to find any secret passages by tapping the floorboards, walls, and looking for any mechanisms, but is unsuccessful. The house seems solidly built to code, and is without any unregulated additions.

Kobe-Juan meets up with his disciple, who disappointedly shakes his head.

"I couldn't find anything of note Master, no secret passages or anything of the like. The only thing that was strange was that there was not a single pair of shoes to be found in the house. If the criminal abducted the girl in this very house, why would he steal the shoes as well? "

Kobe-Juan strokes his beard. "It could be that she only had the one pair, having put the remainder of her funds towards necessities and her education. And what an education this young lady has had! There was surely a bright future awaiting Ms. Dili, I cannot imagine why she would willingly throw that away. Perhaps this 'Jorfi' would know more."

[Assuming this name does not ring a bell] Kobe-Juan and his disciple will seek out Maf Dili's friend Wanmi Rufu to inquire about Jorfi.

Seeing that there wasn't much more to be gleaned from Maf Dili's residence, the older gentleman and his disciple exit, and seal the door.

The home address of Wanmi Rufu is quite close by, but it turns out nobody is home. That is quite natural, however, and so the pair head off to the Leburee Rotisserie.

They find Wanmi on shift, but manage to obtain a few minutes of her time.

"Did you find Maf? No? Ah..." She looks disappointed when told that the investigation is ongoing, but is able to answer Kobe-Juan's questions about Jorfi.

"Yeah, Maf has told me about Jorfi. I remember she said he was a schoolteacher in the neighboring county, and that they were going to get together when Maf passes the Imperial exams. Sometimes Maf asks me for advice when writing letters to him, so I remember his address was Skylark Way, Mastimo Town, Traki County."

\\\
(Osein)

The man in the funny hat takes the cash he is offered, and hands Osein a stack of chips equalling to 200 ounces in value.

"Sorry, but we do not extend credit to new customers. You must spend at least 1000 ounces at our establishment to receive our credit services."

As per Osein's request to play with the regulars, the man points Osein to one of the tables in the back.

There's five men at the table, including the dealer, and they seem to be casually playing some sort of card game. One of them, a tall lanky man, whistles when he sees Osein come to the table.

"A new face! Hope you know how to play, it'd be no fun if you can't even last an hour. Well, since you're the newcomer, how bout we go easy on you and let you pick the game to play?"

The rest of the men at the table seem to laugh in agreement. Osein sees that the table he's at is the standard card table, and that the dealer is currently holding a deck of Reindeer cards, so the most obvious choices would be Reindeer Herding, or King of the Herd.

There are also dice, a set of Tea Sticks, a type of traditional Shorgee gambling implement, and a couple of other items Osein is not immediately familiar with under the table.

(11:00 -> 11:40)

Seeing as there wasn't much else to be learned from Wanmi, the older gentleman and his disciple decide to bid the waitress farewell, and make their way towards Jonis Jorgi's residence.

When the pair arrives at the address on record, they are surprised to find that it is a single family unit in a relatively nice neighborhood. Certainly, working on the docks is one of the highest paid forms of manual labor, especially in an international trading hub such as Mansiil, so its plausible that Jonis would be able to afford to live in such a place, but it just seems like such a waste to live in such a big house by himself.

The house is rented, however, and so Kobe-Juan was easily able to obtain a spare key from the landlord and begin his investigation inside.

The insides of the house are clean but bare. It's not to say the place the place is lacking in furniture or anything, but lacks a certain sense of home. The kitchen is spotless, and the implements pristine, almost as if they've never been used. It is only when Kobe-Juan makes it into Jonis' bedroom that he actually gets the feeling that someone lives here.

The walls and cabinets are chock full of awards for a large variety of contests, there's some odd trinkets placed here and there on the writing desk, and in a ring around the bedside are scrolls of series of figures in difficult poses. As a seasoned warrior, Kobe-Juan can tell that the figures are actually performing a martial art.

On the bookshelf near the writing desk is a stack of comic scrolls, a few travel guides and some almanacs. The writing desk is devoid of any completed materials, there's only some empty stationary.
