Forced RPG 2: Project Gsekai

In case you wish to taint your mind with memories of the original: http://churchofproz.forumotion.net/t1067-forced-rpg

Rules:
  • Just like the original Forced RPG, this will be a freestyle game - events will be resolved by my indisputable will. Well, you can dispute it but through DMs or something, try to keep it out of the thread or at least out of character.
  • New players can drop in at any time and be spawned into a current scenario.
  • Core mechanic for uncertain events (tentative): I'll choose a die and target number for success. Partial success/failure is a possibility, and depending on the task extreme rolls may produce unusual results.
  • All participants are obliged to post at least once per week, myself included, lest we fall prey to the memes of "dead gaem" or "infinite hiatus".
The intent is to be a quick start game so if you have questions jump in first and ask while we go.

Backstory: It's the year 20XX, and Google has finally completed their clandestine subjugation of the Earth, which has been renamed to Google Earth. They've since set their sights on a new mission: to index every parallel world out there and thus become the greatest search engine in the multiverse!
Through an expert algorithm's analysis of your personal information, you were secretly selected to participate in Google's new Verse Crawler program, aka Project Gsekai. As you left your home one morning you were tragically struck down and presumed dead by a waiting Google Street View van.

You wake to find yourself transported to another world, and if your past experience is any indicator you just know it's gonna be that kind of world with heroes, monsters, demon kings, etc. As a Verse Crawler, your mission is to index as much of this new world as possible to help speed up searches for objects relating to it. Of course you are free to pursue your own agenda, like being a murderhobo, but where's the fun in that?

Character Creation: You start wearing your clothes(if you so choose) and any items that could reasonably make up someone's real world everyday carry, which may include weapons. Suggested format for a character sheet is a Backstory of any length and an Inventory list, which you can either put here in your intro post or a private message to me. Or you could take the simplest option and just spawn as yourself, no additional info needed.

All characters will have a smartphone, a brand new Google Singularity model running on their high tech 5D(dimensional) network that will never run out of power, but network functionality is restricted to contacting your fellow crawlers and supervisor AI as Big Papa G knows you'll perform best without trivial distractions like Pokemon GO and being in touch with loved ones.
Also it has no slots for memory expansion.
Ain't that a bitch?
That's heavy man.

Starting Scenario: You all spawn in a small featureless room where each wall is one solid bright color out of red, yellow, blue or green. An artificial sounding female voice comes from your phones: "Welcome, and thank you for choosing to participate in Project Gsekai! This chrome container will automatically decompose after 4 spawns or 20 minutes have passed, and you may begin indexing the parallel world beyond." [Now is the time for Introductions and Opening Remarks]

"Fuck, man."

A figure in a long flowing red coat stands at about an average male's height, looking upwards at the origin of the disembodied female voice.
Below the coat, two tubes of black leather connected to what seem to be steel covered black boots can be seen. Spiked white hair, slicked backwards sprout from the figure's head.
Over each shoulder a one-strap backpack and a simple black bow can be found respectively. The butts of 3 arrows can be seen sticking out of the backpack.
Streaming down from each shoulder are the red sleeves of the coat, a light brown hand popping out of each sleeve.
What seems to be a white curved short sword is held in the left hand and a black twin in the right hand.

A man wearing a bespoke cream three-piece suit looks around. His slicked back hair looks like it could spill gel onto the floor if he tilted his head even an inch.

"We here at Google would like to remind you that the sooner you meet your indexing quota, the sooner you can return to your own world, if you so choose. Indexing quota may vary on an individual basis."

A timer window appears on each wall of the chrome container, starting the countdown from 20 minutes. "You may use this time to prepare or touch any wall to trigger container decomposition early."

The figure in red continues staring upwards, motionless, like a sturdy statue, seemingly unaffected by the additional announcement.

Realizing there isn't much he can do, Vincent starts reading web novels on his phone.

Cory hits a mine almost immediately and loses the game. Vincent's webnovel starts off with a woman Googling "how to find out if he's cheating on me".

Both activities are interrupted as the timer suddenly flashes 0 in bright red. "Threshold reached! The container will now decompose. Enjoy your stay in this parallel world and once again, thank you for participating!"

GAME STARTOH!

With an explosive puff of air, the walls detach from each other and fall outward, the ceiling unfolding with one of the walls. Everyone looks out into the new world to see... sand, lots of sand in every direction stretching out to the horizon, interrupted with the occasional cactus. The sky is a hazy blue with a few clouds around the sun.

You make a 360 degree sweep of the area, using the compass app for reference. Fortunately the terrain around the remains of the container is flat and easily traversable, although to the South you can see the beginnings of dunes and hills. To the West are two large grayish stump-like objects sticking out of the ground. In the East you spy a ragged looking dark structure. Finally, in the North you can only see a few specks in the distance that appear to be moving, although this may be due to heat shimmers.

With the explosive puff of air, the sturdily standing figure in red collapses on its back, fainted.

"Eh, shit man, I don't like sand."

Cory turns on the camera function of his phone and sweeps around all the notable features of the landscape on high zoom.

Cory turns the zoom up and hits the "enhance" button when it starts getting blurry, which uses patented interpolation algorithms to make its best guess at what could fill the space in between pixels.

The two stumps in the West become a bit clearer, now looking more like two upside-down L shapes sticking out at an angle. There also appears to be a smaller object beside them which can't be made out at this distance. In the North Cory confirms that the specks are actually moving and it's not just the heat shimmers, and there are about 2-3 of them moving in this direction. The structure in the East is a black ruined building about the size of a row of townhouses.

The man in the three-piece suit starts sweating profusely. He frowns and mops his brow with the hankerchief in his hand.

"Dios mio, it is much too hot in this dreadful world. Look, our friend here has already fainted from the heat!" He motions toward the figure in red.

A trickle of equal-parts sweat and hair-gel runs down his neck.

"Guys, I think we should find shelter somewhere before we die of the heat, I think there are some buildings to the East we can try."

Vincent crouches down within the shadows of his nearby companions. He makes a sweep of the area looking for water.

"I think the more pressing concern is the cold in the night. There's a decent amount of cacti nearby for shade and water. Does anyone see any wood to make a fire?"

Red fabric billows slightly above the ground, caught under the body of the previously standing figure.
Under the black leather shirt and pants, it is apparent that the collapsed body is fairly flabby yet slender.
Eyes closed and mouth slightly ajar, the fainted character continues to lay where it fell.

Vincent doesn't see any open bodies of water, but the cacti look quite healthy. Some of them even bear what look to be small pinkish fruit.

The man in the suit licks his lips. The fruits look extremely delicious.

"Oi, chico," he says to Vincent. "I'm feeling rather hungry. How about we go eat some of that fruit before searching further? Wouldn't want to starve to death in this wasteland."
Reply
#20
"Sure thing, I think that's a great idea."

Cory keeps his cell camera discretely trained on whoever goes to eat the "cactus fruit" to index the reaction.

A closer examination reveals that much like the cacti from which they sprout, the fruit is also covered in prickly spines.

The man in the suit frowned and walked back to the group.

"Well, unless someone has a pair of thick gloves, it might be difficult to get those fruits open. Unless..." he says, glancing down at the red-clothed man's twin swords.

#23
The suited man finds that what he thought were twin swords are just replicas made of foam, without much of a sharp edge.

Cory takes out his license plate and tries to use it to detach the fruit.
Reply

Cory's license plate isn't very sharp but this can be compensated for with additional force behind the cut. He approaches the nearest cactus and gives it a go.

Cory manages to sever a fruit from the cactus but feels a sharp pain and recoils as the fruit drops to the ground. A few spines are now sticking out of the back of his left hand [equal to the following dice roll]. It seems that the license plate is not long enough to guarantee complete safety from getting pricked.

"Aw Fuck!"

Cory pulls out the cactus spike and throws it away, he then flips over the fruit and starts plucking out the spines one by one.

Vincent takes off his shirt and wraps it several times around his hand. He tries to pick off a fruit.
Reply

Fortunately the spine is large enough that Cory is able to extract it with his other hand. He begins de-spining the fruit, a long and tedious process assuming he takes care to avoid touching the spines he isn't currently plucking.

Vincent wraps his shirt around his hand, which has a slight cooling effect. Now, he tests his makeshift protection against the cactus...

Vincent grasps a fruit lightly and twists until the bond is weakened enough to rip away from the cactus. He succeeds, but not without a few spines managing their way past or through the shirt.

Vincent flinches due to the sharp pain. He slowly removes the spines from his hand.

"Darn, I should've just used my shoe."

The man in the suit ponders for a moment. "Is the license plate sharp enough to cut through the fruit? Maybe we can have two gentlemen holding the two ends of the fruit in place with their feet, one to hold the license plate in place, and the last to press (or stomp) on the license plate with their foot?"

Vincent sees a small hint of blood from where one of the spines was removed, likely from a tiny puncture wound. Cory has managed to render the fruit spineless.

"Eyyy, who wants a bite of dis fruit?"

The fainted person begins slowly crawling to their feet, looking around as they get up.

From the mouth comes a relatively high pitched:
"whaa-"
*cough *cough

Visibly embarrassed, the cosplayer in red resumes in a more regular pitch and tone.
"What's going on here?"

Used to bleeding all the time, Vincent is unphased.

He begins to despine his fruit as well.

The red cosplayer beholds the scenery that was described before, plus Cory and Vincent fiddling around with cactus fruit, a suited man in deep thought, and a small group approaching from the north.

As he walked away from the container zone to acquire the fruit, Cory must backtrack a short distance to catch up with the walking red cosplayer, who sees him coming.

(Figured I'll let ya know I'll join after I make a character after work tomorrow. Though quick question, how much bullshit can I get away with when making a character? Like if I wanted to import a character from another game instead of making a new one?)
Reply

@Kaede Your character must be someone that could plausibly exist in "real life"(modern day earth plus maybe a few decades of technological advancement) and can only bring in items they could reasonably carry. Nothing wrong with importing from another game, but you will probably need to make some adjustments so that they fit this requirement.

Vincent finishes de-spining his fruit.

Cory picks up the spines he dropped earlier and holds them between his fingers like they do throwing needles in the animes.
Reply

Cory feels really cool, like a character from one of his favorite shows, even though he can't throw needles like they can.

Vincent walks up to the man in the suit and hands him the fruit. "You said you were hungry right? Take some of this."

"We should actually start looking for shelter soon. We can't just keep standing around here."

Cory zooms in with his phone camera on the people who seem to be approaching from the north.
Reply

With his technological scrying eye Cory sees that the group is actually made up of only two people, who are mounted on cargo-laden camels. They don't look particularly hostile to you, but as visitors to this world you can't be certain without further interaction. Based on their speed they will be here within a few minutes.
[You can use this time to do something or just post 'pass' if you're waiting for their arrival. Plot will auto-advance in 48 hours otherwise.]
